Updates
Below are announcements and updates from the Pittsburgh G20 Resistance Project and its working groups.
LEGAL FUND
Over 190 people were arrested in connection with the mass protests and overwhelming use of police force during last month’s G-20 summit in Pittsburgh. Although all those arrested have been released, nearly all still face charges, including sixteen individuals facing felony charges (including several people who were brutalized by police and then charged with “assaulting an officer”).

Spokescouncil Information Updated
Comms for G-20 Protests
Information is Power
Be Part of the Revolution
Tin Can Comms Collective (http://tincancomms.wordpress.com/ )is coordinating a communications infrastructure which you can be part of. It is based on our experiences doing comms during the 2004 Anti-RNC protests. To be part follow the instructions below:
Step 1: Get a cell-phone that can receive texts. (We suggest a pre-paid phone for added security.)
City Releases "G-20 Transportation Safety Plan" video
The city obviously put a lot of time into this video. That's why it's so surprising that they took this version of the video off of the website that they plug so often in the video, replacing it with a louder one of just Lt. Joe and the map. Also surprising is that Zip Cars appear to have fewer restrictions than trucks delivering medical supplies. Good to know.
Ride Board Online
The PGRP's ride board is now up and running. If you need a ride or can offer others a ride to the anti-G-20 actions, post it there or respond to other offers or requests through the online form on the post. Posters' email addresses are NOT publicly visible.
Materials Working Group
Sept 23: PGRP's Wednesday Spokescouncil Information
On September 23, the night before the Thursday mass action, at 7:00 pm, there will be a spokescouncil meeting for information sharing and coordination at our convergence space, located at 4374 Murray Ave.
Childcare During the G-20
The Pittsburgh G-20 Resistance Project is happy to provide childcare for visiting dissidents. Local childcare specialists are committed to providing a safe and caring space for children during the convergence. The hours for childcare are 9:00am-9:00pm, on Thursday, September 24 and Friday, September 25. Ages for children are infant to 12.
Because of limited resources, we can only look after so many children, so please reserve a spot early. Before you apply, check with people you know in the area who might be able to look after your children.
Housing Update 9/12/09 – IMPORTANT
This isn’t great news, but as of today the space we have available for housing during the actions is extremely limited. We still haven’t been able to secure a space for mass housing and we have only a very small amount of space left in individual housing. We are still hoping to have a mass housing space available, and are working on trying to find more individual housing, but as of now we can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to find space for everyone who requests it.
Logistics Update
Hi all! I know that yinz locally and from out of town are wondering what we're working on and maybe even looking for ways to help out/contribute! Well, here’s a brief run down of what we've been up to.
Pittsburgh Principles
- Our solidarity will be based on respect for a political diversity within the struggle for social justice. As individuals and groups, we may choose to engage in a diversity of tactics and plans of action but are committed to treating each other with respect.
- We realize that debates and honest criticisms are necessary for political clarification and growth in our movements. But we also realize that our detractors will work to divide by inflaming and magnifying our tactical, strategic, personal, and political disagreements.
Public Reportback on the Founding Meeting of the Pittsburgh G-20 Resistance Project
"Capitalism is like a spider, the web is getting tighter
I'm struggling like a fighter, just to bust loose
It's like a noose, asphyxiation sets in
Just when I think I'm free, it seems to me the spider steps in."
--Boots Riley
The announcement that the G-20 would be meeting in Pittsburgh, PA, this
coming September surprised everyone -- radicals, locally and across the
country; media commentators; even the White House Press
Corps. Immediately, a flurry of conversations popped up, over
list-serves, in homes, at work places: the leaders who represent 85% of
the world's economy were coming to our hometown to decide (once again) the
fate of the rest of the world. There was no question for us that we were
going to confront them. The only question was how to do it.
